Healthy Meals For Dinner

Replenishing your body with nutrition at the end of the day has many short term and long term benefits, such as sound sleep, better digestion, better metabolism, lower risk of diseases, increased energy and, consequently, a better health. Many people tend to keep their stomach empty the whole afternoon and binge at dinner time. This is not good as it is unhealthy to go to bed with an overstuffed stomach. Dinner should consist of healthy foods that do not contain too much protein and unhealthy fats. Here are some healthy foods for dinner.

Sandwiches

Sandwiches are very tasty and healthy if made with wholegrain bread and vegetables such as lettuce, onions, tomatoes, peppers, olives and cucumbers. Use mashed potatoes or hummus to spread on your sandwich instead of mayonnaise. Sandwiches give you carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals to keep you energetic and healthy.

Baked Potatoes

Potatoes are good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Baked potatoes are healthy for dinner whether baked in oven, wrapped in foil and barbecued and cooked in a microwave oven. You can add chopped onions, peppers and low-fat cheese to make them tastier. You can also add chili or salsa to vary the flavor. Potatoes are a great source of vitamins and minerals.

Mexican Foods

Burritos, tacos and quesadillas are good for your health. To make a healthy item, take a wholegrain tortilla and stuff it with sautéed peppers, onions, tomatoes, avocado and low-fat cheese to make burritos; stuff the tortilla with seasoned tofu, poached fish, ground turkey or sautéed vegetables to make tacos; and add chicken, tomatoes and low-fat cheese to make quesadillas. Besides being delicious, there foods provide you with proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals that your body needs to stay healthy.

Vegetable Soup

No health food should be complete without soup. You can use a mix of your favorite vegetables such as carrots, onion, squash, green beans, corn, frozen peas and celery. You can also add cooked frozen brown rice to the mixture. These give you all the vitamins, mineral and fiber that your body needs.

Salads

Fresh green salad makes a healthy dinner as it gives you vitamins and fiber. You can add toppings of cranberries, nuts, shredded carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, almonds and low-fact cheese. To make it more interesting, you can have it with grilled cutlet or grilled salmon.
