How To Get Yellow Marks Off A White Shoe?

White shoes are the most beautiful shoes that can go along with any dress. However, often we refrain from buying these beautiful shoes only because of the fear of maintenance. It surely pains when your most beautiful pair of white shoes or white school shoes bear yellow marks due to constant wear and dirt. Fortunately, you can remove the yellow stains off your shoe by following a simple array of cheap yet useful home remedies that will make your pair of costly white shoes shine again. It is advisable to remove the stain as soon as you can, as time will make the stain settle down and more difficult to remove.

Things you will need:

  1. Whitening toothpaste
  2. An old toothbrush or gentle scrubber
  3. Baking soda
  4. A brush with soft bristles
  5. Fine-textured rag or cloth
  6. Hydrogen peroxide (3%) ,this might be a bit difficult to find

Instructions:

  1. Use a sponge to wet the shoe until all of it is uniformly damp. Put a required amount of whitening toothpaste to the yellowed area and scrub with the toothbrush or scrubber. White leather shoes are comparatively easier to wash but do not scrub it too much as the leather is scratched easily. Let the shoe get rinsed under running water to remove the paste completely. Dry the shoes under sunlight or keep it vertical on a shoe rack for the same. Repeat the process again if necessary.
  2. Take a small dish or bowl and pour about a quarter cup of baking soda in it. Baking soda is a remarkable stain remover of almost all kinds of articles. Mix a required amount of soft water to make a slightly thick paste with it. After having done the process in step 1, spread this paste over the yellow patches and keep the white shoe undisturbed for an hour or so. Within this time, scrub the affected area with a soft-bristled brush. Wipe away with a damp cloth or rinse the shoe again with water.
  3. Though the above treatment is sufficient, there might be yellow spots still remaining. For this, soak a clean rag in the hydrogen peroxide (use gloves while doing this) and rub it on the yellowed region completely. Keep the shoe aside for ten minutes or so, and then wipe away. Do not wash the area. Redo the process to remove the stain completely.

Tips and warnings:

Often people opt for bleaching their white shoes as this is a relatively cheaper method. However, bleaching agents themselves contain a yellowing agent that will again turn your shoes yellow, this time even worse.
