What is Stablon and for what Stablon is used ?

Stablon is an antidepressant drug with an excellent safety profile. In addition, it has a definite action in reducing anxiety. Stablon or Tianeptine is a drug used as an anti-depressant, in the same sort of way that Prozac or Paxil is, in that it can improve the availability of the calming neurotransmitter- serotonin. But rather than blocking the uptake of serotonin that occurs with those aforementioned SSRIs, Stablon actually increases the uptake of serotonin.

An antidepressant that is chemically related to amineptine. It is a serotonin reuptake accelerator and works opposite to the action of SSRI's. A key advantage of STABLON is its ability to relieve anxious symptoms in depressed patients, leading to a dramatic and significant decrease in anxiolytic coprescription.

Stablon could interfere with other anti-depressants, particularly MAO inhibitors, (including Gerovital-H3 ) and other SSRIs such as Prozac etc.

How to Take Stablon

Take Stablon medication exactly as prescribed. Do not stop taking Stablon medication suddenly without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when the medication is stopped abruptly.

The recommended dosage of Stablon is 1 tablet taken by mouth, 3 times daily, before breakfast, lunch and dinner. This dosage should be lowered for patients over 70 years of age and those with renal problems. Do not interrupt treatment without first consulting your doctor and follow his instructions.

What are the Side Effects of Stablon

Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with Stablon medicine. Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using Stablon medicine will experience that or any side effect.

• Headache
• Anxiety
• Nausea
• Fatigue.
• Constipation
• Insomnia
• Sweating
• Dizziness
• Chest pain
• Difficulty in breathing (dyspnoea)

Warnings and precautions for Stablon

• Stablon medicine should not be used during pregnancy as it may be harmful to the unborn baby. Seek medical advice from your doctor.
• Do not suddenly stop taking Stablon. You must gradually reduce the dose or you may get a dangerous increase in blood pressure. Ask your prescriber or health care professional for advice.
• Stablon medicine may reduce your ability to drive or operate machinery safely. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you and you are sure it won't affect your performance.
• If you should require local or general anaesthesia, it is important that you inform your anaesthetist you are taking this medicine.
• Stablon medicine should not be used during pregnancy or breast-feeding.

What drugs may interact with Stablon

Stablon could interfere with other anti-depressants, particularly MAO inhibitors, (including Gerovital-H3 ) and other SSRIs such as Prozac etc. Therefore, if you intend to combine Stablon with any other combination with any other anti-depressants, you must only do so under the guidance of a physician.

What to do if you take Overdose of Stablon ?

If you take overdose of Stablon the seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center.

What to do if you take Missed Dose of Stablon ?

If you miss a dose of Stablon , take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

How to Store Stablon :

• Keep Stablon medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of the reach of children.
• Store at room temperature.
• Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.
